They say the kitchen is the heart of the home – whether you agree or not, the kitchen is undoubtedly a place we all spend a lot of time in, not just to cook, but to share meals with family and friends. It’s therefore important for it to be designed to be aesthetically pleasing, as well as highly functional. If your kitchen is far from being the kitchen of your dreams, but you don’t have the time or the budget to completely renovate it, here are some design features you can add that will transform it into a beautiful, practical space you will want to spend all your time in.
If you can’t function without your morning coffee, or just like to enjoy a few cups during the day, then having your own coffee station is probably a dream to you. All you need to do is select a space in your kitchen, on your counter or, if that’s too small, a separate side table, and place all your coffee essentials on it. Add your coffee machine, coffee cups, napkins, jars for coffee and sugar, and get creative in customising it. It will add a fun and distinctive touch to your kitchen!
A wine cooler is a must if you’re a wine fanatic, or simply if like having people over for dinner. Choose between freestanding and built-in, depending on how many bottles you intend on storing. Some wine coolers also have two separate compartments for white wine and red wine, as they have different optimum temperatures. Also consider adding LED lights, as they’ll make it easier for you to pick the bottle you want without increasing the temperature of the cooler.
Dishwasher in a drawer
If you don’t have enough space for a regular dishwasher or if it doesn’t fit your ideal kitchen’s style, consider a dishwasher drawer instead. They are neat and compact and allow you to run smaller loads, and you can choose the number of drawers you want. The perfect idea if you’re looking for a combination of functionality and style!
For a fun, easy to create and practical look, simply install a rack or a metal bar under a cabinet, next to or over your cooking station. Hang your frequently used utensils on it, and personalise it in any way you want.
Who doesn’t enjoy listening to some good music while they cook? Adding some wall or ceiling speakers to your kitchen is simple, but it can make all the difference. Be mindful of where you place them, though – keep them away from tall furniture which might interfere with the sound, placing them in opposite corners if on-wall, directed towards the middle of the room.
Soft close drawers and cabinets
Soft closing doors can really add a final touch of luxury to your kitchen – no more slamming drawers and cabinets! Due to the mechanism which slows the close of a door, so that it does so gradually and gently, soft closing doors are beneficial for the maintenance of your kitchen, and are also kid-proof as they prevent fingers from being accidentally slammed in doors.
